batad promise

sometime back late last year, i was at my friend's house along with the rest of the usual gang. we were at the garden roof deck where we decided to have our usual after class drinking session. my friend, probably being tired of always talking about his dates, decided to ask everyone else how we're doing? who have we been dating lately? except for the only girl who has a boyfriend, us the remaining two guys answered we're not dating anyone at the moment. we basically had the same reason; that we're enjoying being single at the moment. i remember saying something like this:

i know the feeling when you desperately long to have that special somebody in your life. i was torn by that feeling last year but not this moment. im enjoying myself right now even if i dont have that special someone. i enjoy the company of friends, im preoccupied with school and i get more than enough drama at home. im happy and that's no BS! so i'll just enjoy this feeling of contentment while it lasts. for now, i dont plan to go out of my way to look for that person. but when love comes knocking i'll give it a chance.

with that we moved on to another topic and on with my friend's mom's leftover chivas.

fast forward to late january of this year 2008, i was up high in the cold mountains of batad. just outside my room, i sit by the edge of the unfinished balcony corridor that cant make up for any railings and with my bare feet freely swinging in the misty air below. i feel like im floating and heaven is before me. down below is the rice terraces, marvelously molded like an ampitheatre with gigantic proportions befitting gods like me. yes, from where i sit, despite this inn that looks dilapidated, unfinished and decaying all at the same time, one cant help but feel like a god overlooking his dominion.

the fog had everything in its embrace: my terraces, my valley, my mountains and my trees. jealous of the fog, i raised my hands up high in the air as if wanting to wrap my arms around the green mountains up above that has had my eyes wide open in awe since i arrived this morning. then i let out a sigh. in that moment my eyes opened to a realization.

what's more beautiful than this? *sigh* what's more beautiful is to have that somebody dear to share this magical moment with. i want to love somebody. to the real gods out there, i pray that i find that special someone that is worthy sharing this moment with. i hope someday, i'll be back here in this same spot with that special someone.

in that moment, after such a long time, ive once again began to have that desperate feeling to have somebody special in my life. but at that time and place, i was left with no choice but to enjoy the rest of the trip with the company of friends. it wasn't bad though and not at all difficult to have fun in that beautiful place.

after almost a week in batad, i was back home and even before i could ease back in the real world i quite unexpectedly met the big bad wolf. i fell for him fast and within a month he became my boyfriend. but after two months of being together, time has finally come for me to realize that the bad wolf, as much the same as in the fairy tale, is not what this not so little red riding odin hood came to look for in the woods.

someday i'll find what ive been longing for and when i find that special someone we would go to the chilly mountains of batad, back on that very spot. we would spend an entire day just doing nothing but cuddle in each others' warm embrace, and this time around the the terraces, the mountains and the fog would envy us.
